John Allen Rudy

December 11, 1940 — August 16, 2023

Healdsburg, CA

It is with the deepest sadness and with broken hearts that we announce that John A. Rudy passed away
peacefully at 7:19am on August 16th, 2023, at Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital in California, after a protracted
battle with illness.
Born to John and Mary Rudy in Passaic, NJ, on December 11th, 1940, he is survived by his loving wife of
56 years, Dorothy, his two devoted sons, Jonathan and Michael, his daughter-in-law Jamie, his grandchildren, Madeline and Nicole,
his sister Irene Sudol, brother-in-law Dahn Sudol, and nieces Jayne and Doreen. He was a loving and
devoted friend to all that were lucky enough to know him.
John was baptized at the Three Saints Church in Garfield, NJ, on December 29th, 1940. He graduated
with a degree in Accounting from Lehigh University in 1962. He and his family moved from Ridgewood,
NJ, to Boca Raton, FL, in 1979, to escape the cold winters of the Northeast. John was an early riser and
was able to take advantage of the warm weather in south FL with his penchant for bike riding everywhere.
He spent much of his career as an accountant and a banker. He was never afraid to speak up and speak
his mind. He was honest to a fault. However, his best and most important job was as a loving husband,
father and grandfather to two grandchildren that he adored.
As good of a person as you would want to meet in life, John was always quick with a smile and a warm
laugh that would energize the room. He simply had the best qualities of humanity within him. He spent
his last months with a smile on his face, despite the overwhelming odds against his recovery, and was
quick to always thank the nursing staff at Santa Rosa Memorial for their help and care.
After moving to Healdsburg, CA, in 2002, John quickly immersed himself into the food and wine culture
of Wine Country. The last meal that he ate or the last bottle of wine that he drank was almost always
the best, or one of the best, meals that he had ever eaten. He would appreciate the small things in life
that would make him happy, and he always knew how to keep life in perspective, and how to prioritize
what was important; friends and family. A little-known fact about John was that he was also a self-
taught home cook, known for his beef and broccoli, which was served on more than a few occasions.
Our lives will never be the same again without him. He will forever be in our hearts and will be so
deeply missed by friends and family. May you finally Rest in Peace. We can only hope to see you again
one day in Heaven.
