Anthony Philip Gatto died on August 20 . He is predeceased by his parents Nicolina and Fillip Gatto, his brother and sister-in-law Frank and Doris Gatto, his sister and brother in law Angie and Louis Paladino, his sister and brother in law, Annabel (De Peri) and Emil Nardachone..
He is survived by his wife Marjorie (De Peri), his daughter Phyllis Ann Gatto Neri, his son Phillip Salvatore Gatto and his fiancée Melissa Flanders, His grandchildren Philip and Hope , and his nieces and nephews, Jason, Jon, Tracey, Alexandra, Natalie, Jayden, Nicolas, Lee Ann, Robert, Michael and Frank Jr.
Tony grew up in Clifton,N.J. where he graduated from Clifton High School. He married Marjorie in 1958 and they settled in Garfield New Jersey and started their family. They moved to Saddle Brook in 1968 for the rest of their married life, and raised their children there.Tony started his career with Western Electric after high school, and then was employed at New Jersey Bell, Bell Atlantic, Lucent and ending as supervisor for Verizon.. After retiring from Verizon, he worked for “his favorite job” with Kimbridge Florist in Saddle Brook which allowed his love of flowers to combine with his new late in life career. Tony was a volunteer fire fighter with Saddle Brook Hook and Ladder Company #1. He progressed from lieutenant, to captain, battalion chief, and then to Chief of the Department. He also served as president of the department for many years. He was also a member and president of the Saddle Brook Zoning Board and the Planning board. Tony worked hard in his garden and loved the spirited competitions among his friends about who had the best tomatoes. He enjoyed vacations at the shore with his family, cruising the seas with Marjorie when he wasn’t busy working .
The viewing will be held at Kugler Community Home For Funerals, Saddle Brook, NJ on Sunday August 24 from 6 to 9 p.m. The funeral service will start from Kugler’s Funeral home on Monday morning at 9 a.m., funeral mass at St. Philip the Apostle church at 10 a.m. Entombment in Calvary Cemetery, Paterson , NJ.
